Attendance and Absence Reporting

At Newstead Wood School, we understand that outstanding attendance is a crucial factor in our students' journey towards achieving outstanding progress and success, especially in their Year 11 and 13 exams. Our goal for all students is to maintain 100% attendance, and we set a minimum expectation of 96% attendance, which translates to missing just one day in every five weeks.

Reporting Absences

If your child is unavoidably going to be absent from school due to reasons such as illness, we ask that you notify the school before 8.30am on each day of their absence via email at attendance@newsteadwood.co.uk or by phone. Please provide a reason for their absence, and if possible, support it with medical evidence.

For extended absences, please complete a leave of absence form and submit it to the school in person or via email at attendance@newsteadwood.co.uk. You can find our Attendance Policy here.

Appointments and School Hours

We ask you to schedule any appointments for your child outside of school hours whenever possible to minimise the impact on their attendance. If appointments cannot be arranged outside of school hours, please inform the Attendance Officer in advance by email.

Please note that failing to provide a written reason for your child’s absence, either in hard copy or via email, may result in it being marked as unauthorised.

Late Arrivals and Early Departures

If a student arrives at school late and has missed registration, they should sign in at Reception. This will result in a late detention unless it is due to a pre-notified appointment.

Similarly, if a student needs to leave school early for an appointment, they should sign out at Reception. Ensure that you send an email to attendance@newsteadwood.co.uk or provide a letter explaining the reason for the early departure, otherwise they will not be allowed to leave.

At Newstead Wood School, we value and prioritise attendance, and your cooperation in maintaining a consistent attendance record for your child is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
