Young Reporters Sept 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

Following the success of the Young Reporter Scheme last year, we are delighted to be participating in this innovative project once again. Run by an experienced Journalist from the News Shopper, the scheme provides students with the opportunity to join a team of young reporters and generate online content, all of which is published on a live news platform.

As well as gaining an invaluable insight about the work of a journalist, students develop a range of highly regarded transferrable skills, including research capabilities, improving writing skills, building up confidence and the ability to work to a deadline. The programme is recognised and supported by universities nationwide.

In summary, this excellent scheme offers your daughter/son:

Esther O'Neill won the "Breaking News" category in the scheme last year and said:

"The Young Reporters scheme was a fantastic opportunity to get my voice heard on matters that mean a lot to me. It helped me learn how to stick to deadlines and write concisely under pressure, as well as increase my confidence in contacting strangers to get quotes. A career in journalism is something I would love to pursue"
