Over the course of the year, it will cover aspects of spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as reading and writing skills. Please see the Learning Support Schedule for the focus of the weekly taught session. Please note that the schedule is subject to change.
Literacy support sessions are taught sessions which cover a different aspect of literacy each week. They are run during afternoon registration (3.10-3.35) every day of the week for Years 7-11. Sixth form students are able to attend a weekly drop-in session every Friday during lunchtime which focuses primarily on essay-writing and exam-based skills. The timetable each week is as follows:
Year group
Day of the week
Years 12-13 (sixth form)
Friday lunchtime (1.30-2.00)
Years 10-11
Monday PM reg
Year 9
Tuesday PM reg
Year 8
Wednesday PM reg
Year 7
Thursday PM reg
Students are invited to attend these sessions based on a range of data including their reading age, data gathered from assessments in essay-writing subjects (such as English) and feedback from their subject teachers. Parents will also be informed. Students' attendance to the sessions is therefore compulsory while they can be monitored carefully to track their progress. If they are making excellent progress, they and their parents will be informed that they no longer need to attend the sessions.
