Why Choose us?
Newstead Wood Sixth Form is a high achieving, academic Sixth Form. The majority of our students go on to higher education and many will join the professions.
We are hugely proud of our Sixth Form at Newstead Wood School. Our Sixth Form offers a vast array of opportunities and we very much hope that you will get fully involved with everything on offer. We believe that we balance the academic pressures well and offer a supportive and nurturing environment for all our students to achieve.
We are a vibrant and active community welcoming students from other schools to join our Sixth Form in Year 12. Our purpose built Sixth Form Study Centre opened in 2011 and houses 11 classrooms and a Computer Suite for Sixth Form students’ use. Our dedicated common room and coffee bar balance the academic pressures of Sixth Form life.
There are many academic, extra-curricular and leadership activities that flourish with input from sixth formers and we are always grateful for the support of our Year 12 and 13 students. We look forward to you all making some lasting memories and enjoying experiences that will propel you forward into your adult life.
For all of you joining our Sixth Form, you are embarking on a new stage of your journey, and even those of you who have been at Newstead Wood School for the last five years may be surprised at how different this will feel. It can be a time of great change and there are many people in school ready to help you through any challenges you may meet.
In preparation for University, our weekly lecture programme offers exploratory talks from universities and degree subject areas through the course of Year 12. There will be over 30 talks available in Year 12. Our annual ‘Beyond Newstead’ evening invites representatives from Oxbridge, Russell Group, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences, the Arts and Humanities subjects to present to parents and students.
Students will be supported through the application process for university, foundation courses and apprenticeships very carefully and Form Tutors will offer you a great deal of support as we get into the swing of making applications. Students and parents will have lots of questions and may even consider applying to study abroad. It is the role of the Sixth Form team to advise and point you in the right direction to get the most up-to-date advice and to take you through everything as smoothly as possible.
We are sure that Newstead Wood School Sixth Form will put you in the strongest position for your future.
