Ofsted Outstanding

Why choose us?

We are a heavily oversubscribed school offering an excellent education to all our students.

"They [students] value the plentiful leadership experiences on offer. Leaders enable pupils to discover cultures that are different to their own, to celebrate individuality and to contribute to society." Ofsted, 2022

We strive for academic excellence and our headline figures each year are testament to our success. We offer an academic curriculum which is complemented by an amazing array of co curricular opportunities and a strong Personal Development programme. You will see a description of our subjects under the Curriculum section of our website.

Our expert and dedicated staff inspire our students, and our students' energy, creativity and enthusiasm inspire staff. We are proud of our students' achievements - whatever field they excel in. However, neither staff nor students are complacent - constantly looking for new challenges to meet and fresh problems to solve. Newstead students have freedom and security to be themselves, and many opportunities to follow their interests and aspirations. We know them as individuals and support them to grow as thinking young people and active citizens, ready to take positions of responsibility and leadership on leaving school.

We are proud to offer a full and rounded educational experience with over 300 educational trips and visits taking place each year. We know that these are so important, both to complement and develop the academic studies, but also to offer cultural experiences, and enrichment opportunities to our students. We value the importance of public speaking and opportunities for leadership and will strive to develop these in all our students.

There are many opportunities to develop talents in sport and music along with Duke of Edinburgh Award, Young Enterprise and Community Sports Leader Awards. Cultural Arts Week provides an additional forum for cross-curricular studies and the exploration of subjects in depth. Finally, our extensive links with the local community ensure students become involved and develop an appreciation of the wider world.

As students progress through the school they can become involved in a wide range of influential leadership opportunities.  Our Head Student and Deputies are complemented by the House Captains, Subject Leaders, School Parliament, Eco Captains and Sports Captains. These students have an integral role in representing the school.

The support we offer our students is excellent. This can be in the form of emotional support for students and their families when they need it, and also in terms of the support on offer for making subject choices or University applications. Our Careers provision and Beyond Newstead events are tailored to our students' needs and always very popular.

Our students have the very best potential and it is our role to help them achieve that and go on to the very best Universities in the world.
