Newstead Wood School is a highly selective grammar school for students from age 11 - 18, which is co-educational in the Sixth Form. Newstead follows the English National Curriculum. Students are drawn mainly from South East London. British students constitute almost 100% of the total pupil body. We have a diverse student cohort with currently over 25 nationalities represented. About 5% of students at Newstead are Pupil Premium students. The normal duration of stay is 7 years, although we have around 50 students enter the school in Y12. English is the language of instruction at Newstead, and most pupils speak English as a first language. Students are encouraged to concentrate on 3 A Levels in the Sixth Form. There is some flexibility within this, with a small number of students embarking on a fourth A level or EPQ. The A Level subjects offered to the current Year 13 cohort are detailed below: Art & Design, Biology, Chemistry, Classics, Computing, Design & Technology, Economics, English Literature, French, Further Mathematics, Geography, German, History, History of Art, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Religious Studies; and Spanish. A Level predicted grades are the product of discussion and assessment within subject areas, and evidence is collated to substantiate these predictions. Such evidence will include mock examination results, internal ‘current performance’ grades, together with staff judgement of a student’s attainment throughout a course and their potential for the future.
Our Sixth Form is an exciting place to be. We are a vibrant and active community with a progressive ethos. There is no such thing as a typical student at Newstead Sixth Form. We value individuality, diversity and tolerance and are proud of the range of students who study with us.
Our purpose built Sixth Form Study Centre opened in 2011 and houses 11 classrooms and a Computer Suite for Sixth Form students’ use. Our dedicated common room and coffee bar balance the academic pressures of Sixth Form life. Our Information Evening for Sixth Form takes place in November each year. We very much look forward to meeting you.
